The Oakensoul Ring - a mythic item introduced in The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle Chapter, has been nerfed in Update 8.0.2. This patch is available on the public test server.
Before we begin, mythic items in TESO are unique special equipment that can only be obtained from antiquity hunts. These items offer players a special “one-piece set effect” unlike other equipment in the game. Because of how powerful they are, players can only equip one mythic item at a time.
That said, Update 8.0.2 nerfs the Oakensoul significantly. Originally, this mythic item provides unique stats, including 450 weapon and spell damage, 5,280 armor, and 1,973 critical chance, among many others. The only limitation here is that equipping the Oakensoul prevents players from switching between primary and backup weapon sets. In other words, this item is only meant for one-bar builds.
In Update 8.0.2, instead of giving players unique stats to bolster their characters, the Oakensoul now grants major buffs only. This was done to ensure that its power does not eclipse other two-bar builds.
Here’s a rundown of the changes:
- This set now grants Major Courage rather than 450 Unique Weapon and Spell Damage.
- This set now grants Major Savagery and Prophecy, rather than a unique 1,973 Critical Chance rating.
- This set now grants Major Endurance, Fortitude, and Intellect, rather than unique Health, Magicka, and Stamina Recovery.
- This set now grants Major Resolve rather than a unique 5,280 Armor.
The Community is Not Happy
Unsurprisingly, the adjustments made to the Oakensoul did not sit well with the community. Redditor @remosito has some scathing remarks about the nerf. They’ve stated that this item now sucks when used in group play. They added that it would’ve been better had the dev team just toned the values down instead of changing the unique stats to major buffs.
Another user opined that Oakensoul is still great for solo players but people using this in groups, especially those tackling more serious content, should be kicked out of the team.
Even though the Oakensoul has been “killed,” there’s still some hope. Remember that this update is available only on the PTS for now, which means that the developers can still revert the item back to its original state before the release of the High Isle Chapter.
What do you think about the changes made to the Oakensoul? Were you surprised that this particular mythic item got nerfed or have you seen it coming?
