Just recently, Epic Games began testing the highly requested Achievements functionality in its Epic Games Store by adding an early version of the feature to Ark: Survival Evolved. Now, we have some more news that the digital storefront for games is also introducing mod support. Currently, the only game that supports mods is MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries.
Much like the Achievements functionality, the mod support is also an early implementation, which is expected to become a full-fledged feature in the near future. Epic rolled out an update that now supports the newly announced feature and you can already download a bunch of mods for MechWarriors 5: Mercenaries right now.
The developers for MechWarrior 5 stated, "we are extremely excited to announce that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is the first game to participate in the Beta launch of Epic Games Store Mods..With this release, discovering and installing MW5 Mods made by the amazing modding community will be easier than ever, integrated directly into the existing Epic Games Launcher."
Pirahna Games also highlighted some interesting mods that players would want to check out, including:
- MechCommader Mercenaries: The mod allows you to turn the game into real-time strategy experience, completely changing the genre of the game. Mods like these can take mod-compatible games to a whole another level.
- MW5 Mercs Reloaded: The studio commeded the mod creator, NavidA1, for creating a mod that contains various quality-of-life improvements.
- MercTech: This mods offers comprehensive overhaul of many core mechanics that are related to Mechs and MechLab. The mod introduces new wepaons, equipment and BattleTech systems and rules.
- The TableTopRulez Lancemate and Enemy AI Mods: These two mods significantly improve the AI in MW5, improving the gameplay experience.
- The MW5 Mod Compatibility Pack: This mod helps in increasing the compatiblity between different mods, helping mod creators to focus and coordinate to come up with even more amazing mods.
You can check out the mods for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries by heading to the game's page on the Epic Games Store. From there, look for a drop-down menu for mods to browse exisiting mods. The mod editor should also now be available in your game library.
