After Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 arrived in theaters back in 2011, many wizarding fans thought they would never see a movie set in Hogwarts ever again. Unfortunately, that still remains true - for now, but there is a major consolation prize in the meantime. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will bring wands, spells and magical creatures back to big screen, but with an entirely new cast of characters and plot.
The Harry Potter prequel-of-sorts stars Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) and will transport audiences back to 1920s New York. J.K. Rowling herself penned the screenplay based on the fictional textbook of the same name, which she wrote back in 2001. For the first time, the wizarding world will be examined on American soil, as the lead character - Newt Scamander - travels to the United States for reasons not yet known to the public. Despite the premiere of the first trailer, a lot of mystery still surrounds Fantastic Beasts and its characters. Fortunately, Warner Bros. has decided to shed some light on the movie with the release of a new featurette that goes behind-the-scenes. Take a look at the new Fantastic Beasts clip, below:
‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ Featurette
The Fantastic Beasts sneak peak offers a fascinating look of production behind-the-scenes. In addition to some plot explanation, the natures of three more starring characters in the new Harry Potter film are revealed as well. Colin Farrell, who plays Graves, is even showcased for a moment.
Though specific plot details still remain under wraps, here’s a general summary of what to expect in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: In the 1920s, Newt Scamander - a magizoologist who specializes in the study of magical creatures - travels to New York carrying his weathered case that contains extensive ecosystems full of mythical creatures and their habitats, made possible due to the properties of magic.
Upon his arrival, Scamander discovers that the American wizarding community fearfully hides from American Muggles (known as No-Maj’s in the States) due to an extreme form of intolerance that pales in comparison to the UK. The main plot of Fantastic Beasts will reveal what happens when Newt Scamander’s case of magical and quite dangerous creatures escape from their case and enter the “wiz-phobic” streets of America.
Excited yet? You should be! Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them arrives in theaters on Nov. 18.
