Far Cry 6 is one of many upcoming Ubisoft games that will be launching next year. We don’t know much about the game, especially not the technical aspects. However, we now do know a thing or two about the graphical options. AMD recently revealed the cool tech that will be featured in FC6. Ubisoft has partnered up with AMD to provide the best performance and visuals for AMD GPUs and CPUs.
Episode 5 of the Radeon RX 6000 Partner Showcase took place a while back and it revealed that Far Cry 6 will utilize several features provided by AMD. AMD GPUs will be able to play Far Cry 6 with DXR ray tracing. The video also revealed that FC6 will also support Variable Rate Shading (VRS), Fidelity Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS), and Asynchronous Compute.
“We've worked together to focus smooth 4K visuals experience. This requires a lot of memory bandwidth, and the Radeon RX 6000 with Infinity Cache can easily handle this while keeping frame rates high,” Oleksandr Polishchuk, Senior 3D Programmer at Ubisoft said in the video.
I am mostly interested in FidelityFX CAS as it can sharpen the visuals by a lot with no or very little performance hit. CAS was a must-have in Death Stranding and recently, Horizon Zero Dawn also added support for the feature.
“One of the new features of AMD GPUs is DXR ray tracing, which models rays of light more closely to what happens in the real world. This involves complex computations and AMD GPUs can deliver that with no problem delivering stunning visuals. FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening gives a cleaner and more detailed image without impacting performance,” Polishchuk further added. “Async Compute allows AMD GPUs to process graphics and compute workloads simultaneously, maximizing hardware utilization and giving players more performance.”
We haven’t seen any gameplay of Far Cry 6 yet, however, it seems like the game will be less demanding than Watch Dogs Legion and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Ubisoft has already claimed that Far Cry 6 will target 4K 60FPS on both next-gen consoles. We can only hope that PC requirements will be reasonable, and not out of this world like they are for Legion.
