Kevin Smith is directing The Flash Season 3 episode 7, and now we may know the title too. Smith tweeted a photo of the script, but slyly tried to hide the title by placing an Air Canada pen across it. A fan recolored the photo, hoping to find more information, and the new shade just happened to reveal a bit of information that wasn’t there before. Look closely at the top of the adjusted page. You’ll see “Killer Frost.”
Killer Frost is Caitlin Snow’s Earth-2 doppleganger. Zoom stabbed Killer Frost through the chest with her own icicle and left her to die in his lair last season. This episode title could mean she’s not dead after all.
The real Killer Frost being alive may be the most obvious answer, but there’s also another possibility. While Caitlin was being held captive by Zoom, the writing heavily foreshadowed she may claim the identity of her alter-ego down the line. That didn’t happen in The Flash Season 2, but it could in Season 3.
Collider spoke with Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg last April and he revealed Season 3 will delve deeper into Caitlin Snow’s past. “We haven’t met Caitlin’s mother yet. We got a little talk between the two women, which will probably play out in Season 3,” he said.
Earth-1 Caitlin Snow has not shown any sign of metahuman powers. She has tested herself for the meathuman gene and came up negative. When she first met Killer Frost, she became anxious that would be her fate as well. Cisco assured her that she would never become “cold” like her Earth-2 doppleganger. However, in “Back to Normal,” it appears the two Caitlins have more in common than they originally thought, specifically when it comes to their unnamed mother, who they describe to one another as a not-so-pleasant person. We also find out Killer Frost has a brother, Charlie, who died very young. Killer Frost also reveals she flunked out of medical school and eventually married Ronnie Raymond (aka Deathstorm), who was also Earth-1 Caitlin Snow’s boyfriend. After Earth-2 Harrison Wells’ particle accelerator explosion, she was gifted with the ability to generate and manipulate ice.
All of this analysis begs the question, is Caitlin’s fate to become Killer Frost? Zoom actor Teddy Sears spoke to E! Online about the chances of that happening last season.
“We all know from seeing her doppelganger that she has that potential. She begins to internalize what she has to do next with this new information. Who will she become? How will she react?” Sears said. "We've seen her be Killer Frost. We see her heart wants to grow cold, is how I can put it," he tells E! News. "Then she then has to begin to struggle with [the idea that] here's another guy who I thought I loved who is now gone—not physically gone like Ronnie, but he's gone. The prospect of him is gone. Just like in life, how does one react to that sort of thing? There are two very distinct ways to go."
