Fortnite just got its big Minigun update on Friday, but Epic has an extensive roadmap for Save The World and Battle Royale in the weeks ahead. Developer updates on YouTube, the Fortnite blog and reddit posts tell the whole story.
Starting with limited-time modes, you may wonder why there’s a Blitz-related challenge sitting in your queue. Unfortunately, this is locked because it’s meant for a new limited-time mode that Epic will introduce in the coming weeks. Next, Epic also addressed some feedback from the recent Sniper Shootout period. The team has expressed confidence in keeping the revolver in that mode as a primary means of close-range combat.
Beyond the brief tease of Blitz mode, there are a few secondary hints to make note of. The Fortnite team is currently experimenting with non-squad LTMs and is investigating the possibility of a new match type somewhere in between traditional squads and 50v50.
While we wait for those new modes to arrive, you can try out the first shooting test that’s available as a limited-time offering. For those unsure of what the changes entail, shooting tests focus on a first-shot accuracy combat model. That means your reticle will emit a red glow when standing still, aiming or starting a new spray. It’s a visual guide that illustrates how shots in those states will be more accurate. To balance that advantage, headshot critical hits will be reduced alongside a new damage fall-off stat for certain weapons. If this particular model doesn’t appeal to you, the next shooting test will feature perfect accuracy with the addition of recoil.
To take better advantage of those shooting adjustments, new weapons are coming to the gun roster. While we don’t know much about them, the Valentine’s Event will be headlined by a new Crossbow. Deeper in the pipeline are plans for an entirely new weapon set and a weapon that fires explosive bullets.
Adjustments like these will have great impact on both Save The World and Battle Royale, but there are specific changes to Save The World events in the works as well. In addition to the delays announced Friday, Epic has revealed that event quests will now unlock progressively over a six-week cycle as opposed to getting everything at once. These changes not only allow developers to iterate faster during event periods, but they’re also designed to ensure new players never feel overwhelmed. It essentially means events like Fortnitemares and Survive The Holidays will have a more progressive buildup that keeps the Save The World community engaged on a regular basis.
While it’s great to know Epic has big plans for Fortnite’s future, the game’s developers also need to spend some time ironing out its recent kinks. The recent 2.4.0 patch was delayed by 24 hours, only to launch with an obnoxious resolution bug that hurt console players. Service issues have also harmed the game for so long that currency rewards have been offered to all players as compensation. Work is being done to fix these issues, and, once they’re addressed, the world of Fortnite can continue to grow.
Fortnite is in early access across PS4, Xbox One and PC.
