Hmm, that’s weird. News recently broke that Atlanta rapper Future was planning on dropping a new album this Friday on DJ Khaled’s Beats 1 show, ‘We The Best Radio.’ Following the premiere on DJ Khaled’s inaugural episode, Future’s album was supposedly set to arrive on Apple Music later that day. The Verge reported that sources close to the outlet confirmed the rumors and then Khaled and Future appeared on Snapchat this Monday to make the big announcement.
Just two days later, Future took to Twitter to post some ominous announcements. Two back to back tweets alerted the hip-hop community to expect something at “midnight eastern” because “sh*t is about to get real in a few hours.”
But wait - the tweets were posted on Wednesday, ahead of the expected Friday release date for Future’s new album. What does this mean? Either Future simply can’t wait until Friday to drop his next album, or the man has made so much new music that he’s offering even more gifts.
In this writer’s opinion, it has to be the latter possibility. Not only did Future already announce his partnership with DJ Khaled, but he basically made an agreement with Apple as well. On top of that, the album was set to premiere on the very first episode of DJ Khaled’s ‘We The Best Radio.’ Taking away Future’s album from the broadcast gives less incentive for unfamiliar viewers to tune in.
Future simply has made too much music. It can’t be surprising, considering Future released three full-length projects AND a mixtape with Drake in 2015. Future is proving to be a prolific songwriter, and his fans can now reap the benefit. Now the only question remaining whether Future is merely releasing a new song or preceding his album with an entire mixtape? I guess we’ll find out at midnight eastern.
