In an interview with Game Informer, Rod Fergusson, the studio head at The Coalition, sat down to answer a series of over 100 quick questions pertaining to Gears of War 4. He confirmed many things about the upcoming game, including a framerate of 60 FPS for multiplayer.
In addition to a 60 FPS multiplayer experience, Fergusson also confirmed the campaign will not be as smooth, coming in at only 30 FPS. Based on the way the question was asked, it seems that both the single player and multiplayer components to Gears of War 4 will be 1080p.
As for a PC version of Gears of War 4, Fergusson mentioned that it is a “possibility.” Given Microsoft’s recent trend of making games compatible for Xbox One and Windows 10, and the fact that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition was released on PC, it seems the smart money is on a PC version getting released later down the road.
Fergusson also confirmed many other little tidbits of information in his interview. Perhaps the most interesting is about our new protagonist, JD Fenix. We know that Marcus Fenix is JD’s father, but Fergusson has confirmed we don’t know who the mother is. This seems to contradict the popular theory that Marcus got together with Anya after the events of Gears of War 3.
For those who just want to play the new game, Fergusson also re-confirmed that The Coalition is on track to release Gears of War 4 by Fall 2016. This will be before the holiday season, as Fergusson was quick to clarify.
