Geek Farm is finally starting to make its mark in the SEA Region as it took home the crown at the One Esports Dota 2 SEA League. The team beat Fnatic 3-1 to take a large piece of the $100,000 prize pool. This is their second big win after BTS pro Series Season 2: Southeast Asia last June.
Before we look into their journey, you’re probably wondering who Geek Fam is. Well, you probably know at least two of them who are none other than Marc Polo Luis “Raven” Fausto and Carlo “Kuku” Palad. Both of these players have more than cemented their status in the region. Joining them are Karl “Karl” Jayme, Kenny “Xepher” Deo, and Matthew “Whitemon” Filemon.
Making Geek Fam's run even more impressive is that they had to go through some of the region’s top teams. In the first round of the playoffs, they went against TNC Predator and got swept 0-2, forcing them to drop to the Lower Bracket. It was here that they showed what they were truly made of.
Their first match in the Lower Bracket was against Team Adroit, one of the region’s up and coming stars. Adroit took first blood and was almost on the verge of winning Game two. However, Raven managed to get the Divine Rapier and the team fight minutes later went the way of Geek Fam. In yet another team fight Geek Fam again got the advantage with Raven getting an Ultra Kill. Geek Fam forced the issue, pushed, and eventually got the win. By Game three it was all Geek Fam, and they never looked back.
Up next was T1, with Geek Fam again losing Game one. Game two and Game three was all Geek Fam though, with Raven having no deaths in both games. The Lower Bracket Finals was again versus TNC. This time Geek Fam proved to be the better team and trounced TNC 2-0.
This led to a Finals match against Fnatic. In Game one, Fnatic had the lead early on but with Raven on Naga Siren managing to get the farm, it was all downhill from there. Backed by a Grimstroke and Disruptor, Geek Fam grabbed the win. Fnatic, however, got Disruptor for themselves in Game two. With the Phantom Lancer, Fnatic managed to hold on and claim the victory.
Game three was one for the books with the two teams going back-and-forth. Eventually it went the way of Geek Fam after a team fight went in their favor. By Game four you know that Geek Fam had a strong chance to close after Raven picked up Anti-Mage. Indeed, Fnatic was unable to do anything against Geek Fam’s picks and eventually called for the GG.
With the win, it appears that Raven is finally back to form. This is something that teams in the region can expect in upcoming tournaments.
