The highly-anticipated next chapter from the award-winning series, GRID, will unfortunately be delaying its release. Originally scheduled for September 10, publisher and developer Codemasters announced an October 11 release date to replace it.
As specified in their blog announcement, the main reason for delaying the release is because of their intentions for the game to receive added exposure, seeing as GRID is a game that the studio is “hugely excited about”. Truth be told, fans would have probably understood if they said that the game needed to be polished. I’d rather get a delayed game that an unfinished game.
“With GRID receiving multiple nominations and awards at this year’s E3 event in Los Angeles, including being named ‘Best Racing Game’ by Game Informer and DualShockers, the change has been made to give added exposure to a game we’re hugely excited about," a press statement from Codemasters reads. "Thank you to our community for sharing in that excitement since we revealed GRID in May, as we add a brand-new chapter to this storied racing franchise.”
While it may be a bummer for fans of the racing game, Codemasters guaranteed that the promised benefits for those who pre-ordered will still be there for its October release, which includes a unique GRID Edition Aston Martin Vantage GT4, and being able to race to your heart’s content for three whole days before the game’s final release. This delay will also not affect its launch date for Google’s upcoming Stadia platform which will be introduced to the world in November of this year.
For those who don’t know, GRID comes from the makers of the hugely successful DiRT and F1 racing series. Taking place in the GRID World Series, you have the opportunity to race with and against the most iconic of cars, from current supercars to the classics and muscles of yesterday. Featuring some of the most iconic locations in the world for burning rubber, GRID is looking to unseat the Forzas and the Project Cars of its genre to become the undisputed best of the best in racing games.
You can learn more about the game and its myriad of features on Codemasters official website. GRID will be drifting to a location near you soon. The game will be available by October 8 for those who pre-ordered and October 11 for everybody else on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
