Gyenno Technologies showcased a spoon, which can help people with hand tremors have better control of their dining experience, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Their demo included a spoon, fork, and a soupspoon that uses an intelligent high-speed servo control system to offer stability.
“The Gyenno Spoon is designed for people with hand tremors,” said Gyenno CEO Kang Ren to iDigitalTimes. “Hand tremors cause many problems in daily life from eating and drinking to brushing teeth. We wanted to make some product to help solve this problem.”
Ideal for those who suffer from Parkinson’s Disease (or similar conditions), the utensil has the ability to offset 85 percent of hand tremors by distinguishing between intentional hand movements from unconscious tremors.
“There are sensors in the spoon that can detect movement in your hand,” said Ren. “There are two motor systems that make the spoons stable in two directions.”
The device also gathers data and stores it so it can be sent to the cloud from the case when the gadget is charged. This feature allows the user to learn more about their tremors and helps the device perform better. Additionally, the user can send their doctor the data collected.
“Because different people have different types of tremor, we use machine learning technology to make the spoon suitable for different people,” said Ren.
In addition to improving quality of life for those who suffer from tremors, the data collecting feature of this gadget allows the user to learn more about their tremor intensity and timings.
The Gyenno Spoon is available in China and will be available in American markets on Amazon.
