On Tuesday, the official Star Wars site announced principal photography has begun on the upcoming Han Solo movie by sharing a photo of the cast crammed into the Millennium Falcon set.
The photo includes directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, plus cast members Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!), Woody Harrelson (War for the Planet of the Apes), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Donald Glover (The Martian, Atlanta), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) and Peter Mayhew’s understudy, Joonas Suotamo, stepping fully into the Chewbacca role. The announcement also confirmed the casting of Thandie Newton (Westworld).
So far we only know who two of these cast members will be playing (except Chewbacca). Ehrenreich is your new Han Solo and Glover your new Lando Calrissian. While Ehrenreich may not look all that much like Harrison Ford, he’s definitely got the rakish hair and cocky smile going for him.
The new photo and announcement doesn’t have anything to say about the plot, but does confirms Waller-Bridge’s rumored casting and describes the team they’ve assembled. Highlights include Arrival Director of Photography Bradford Young, Action Designer Brad Allan (Kingsman), so at least the Han Solo movie will look good and have great action.
The Han Solo Star Wars Story doesn’t have a title yet, but it does have a release date: May 25, 2018.
