Right before the last Hearthstone expansion came out, Whispers of the Old Gods, the meta was dominated by two decks – Aggro Shaman and Secret Paladin. The two decks owned the game, beating out anything foolish enough to step in its path. When Standard format came around, these decks lost most of their powerful cards and were tossed aside to make room for control decks. Sadly, C’thun never really found the level of success everyone thought it deserved and Aggro continued to dominate the meta.
Somehow, Shaman managed to climb its way back out and now has the best deck type in Hearthstone , Midrange Shaman. Tempo Storm describes the deck as “the most well-rounded deck in the meta as of now.” Totems were often seen as Shaman’s main weakness. Every hero has a hero power that doesn't rely on randomness to be effective, while Shaman had to hope they got the right totem when they needed it. If you wanted a taunt totem and got Spell Damage instead, you were in for some major trouble.
Now totems are Shaman’s best friends. Thing From Below is one of the best cards released in WOTG. It’s a 5/5 taunt that costs one less for each time you summon a totem. That means that if you get the perfect Tunnel Trogg into Totemic Golem into a hero power, you can summon the bug monster with taunt on turn four. That’s an insane curve that most decks just can’t beat.
The whole deck is built around making totems useful. Use Primal Fusion to either buff the totems or your other minions. Most players don’t bother attacking into totems, choosing to go for face damage instead of wasting an attack on a useless 0/2. Now, that 0/2 is a 1/3 or a 2/4 for one measly mana. Buff those totems even more with Thunder Bluff Valiant, then go for the kill with Blood Lust .
Draw cards with Mana Tide Totem, deal damage with Doomhammer and then end it all with a BM Flamewreathed Faceless. Midrange Shaman is the best toolbox deck currently out there. If your opponent runs a control deck like Mage or Warrior, you beat them before they have a chance to defend themselves. If your opponent is running a speedy damage deck like Warlock or Hunter, you can clear their threats while keeping board control.
This is the Midrange Shaman list I’ve been using. The deck itself doesn't cost a lot of dust, so give it a shot:
