Hearthstone players have been super pissed after a series of mistakes by Blizzard. Priest has been the worst class in the World of Warcraft -themed card game, with little to no strengths in the current meta. It’s gotten so bad that top Priest players, widely regarded as the best in the game, barely struggle to reach the top rank of Legend. Zetalot , who was rank one on the ladder before, was barely able to break Legend last season.
Ben Brode, lead designer of Hearthstone , went on to say that Priests might not be as bad as the playerbase thinks and there might be “quality priest decks that players haven't discovered yet.” This comment reached ultimate meme status when players all over the internet did everything in their power to find this undiscovered Priest deck, calling it “Unicorn Priest.” Brode then went on to say fans “ misinterpreted ” his comment and he has no secret Priest list.
The final straw that broke the Desert Camel’s back was Purify. Blizzard developers promised in the next set Priest was going to get new and unique cards to help them become relevant again. On a reveal stream for Hearthstone’s next adventure, Blizzard instead gave us the worst card ever made in Hearthstone’s history. Kripp, one of Hearthstone’s oldest and most successful streamers, released a video telling Blizzard that they messed up big-time with this card.
The Hearthstone community has been up in arms about this card and how it doesn’t measure up to what Blizzard promised us for Priest. There have been long posts on reddit filled with anger , confusion and even an occasional well-written essay. Priest has been the worst class in the game for over two years now, and players are tired of being patient.
Purify just added insult to injury, a card that requires you to silence your own minion for two mana just to draw a card. In no situation is this viable, fun or even creative. It’s just a slap in the face to Priest players who just wanted their favorite class to be viable again.
The Hearthstone community loves its drama, and this is no exception. Hopefully, Blizzard listens to the fans instead of ignoring the problem and continuing to release cards that no serious player would ever want. Not every card in a new set has to be made for “competitive play” but you can’t promise Priest is going to get good cards and then hand them a card so bad it makes Boogeymonster look like Tirion Fordring.
