With the next-gen consoles launching in less than a week, video game companies are at work bringing current games to the next-gen consoles. In an effort to do this, most video game companies have been offering next-gen upgrades for their current games, which basically improves the visual fidelity of the games by bumping up the resolution, improving texture quality, increasing framerates, and more.
Recently, EA detailed how it plans to bring next-gen upgrades to its games via an official blog post. In the post, EA mentioned the games that will be receiving a next-gen upgrade, and here's a breakdown of all those games:
Star Wars: Squadrons
Star Wars: Squadrons is said to be getting two performance options on the Xbox Series X/S. Choosing visual quality over performance will render the game at 1440p and 60FPS on the Xbox Series S and 2160p and 60FPS on the Xbox Series X. However, if you choose performance over visual fidelity, the game will run at 1440p and 120FPS on the Xbox Series S and 2160p and 120FPS on the Xbox Series X. On the PS5, however, Squadrons will run at the same resolution as on the PS4 Pro, which ranges between 1440p and 2160p and 60FPS.
Apex Legends
For the time being, Apex Legends is offering a slight boost in render resolution, bumping it up from 1080p to 1440p on all next-gen consoles. However, EA has claimed that Apex Legends will be receiving a formal next-gen treatment next year. Even better, Apex Legends will support cross-play between current and next-gen consoles, and PC.
The Sims 4
All that EA had to say about The Sims 4 is that it will load faster on the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 and have smoother framerates.
EA Sports UFC 4, NHL 21, Madden NFL 21, and FIFA 21
According to EA, all of these games will run similarly to how they run on the Xbox One X and Xbox One S on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, respectively. The same is true with PS5, as the games will run similarly to how they run on the PS4 Pro. But again, the games will load faster and feature better framerates.
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered
Again, the game will run on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S as it does on the Xbox One X and Xbox One S, respectively. And, on the PlayStation 5, the game will run as it runs on the PlayStation 4 Pro.
