In typical Kojima fashion, Hideo Kojima will talk about his upcoming video game in a film festival.
Death Stranding, Kojima's first solo outing after his well-publicized split with publisher Konami and his subsequent departure from the Metal Gear series, has been shrouded in an air of mystery. More than two years after its announcement during E3 2016, Death Stranding is still quite barebones with regards to its story, world design, and even gameplay. A few promotional materials has been spread around for the upcoming and highly anticipated PS4 exclusive title, but they only served to pose more questions than give direct answers.
Fans of the legendary game director are hoping that his upcoming panel at the Tribeca Film Festival will shed some more light on the game. After all, this is not the first time that Kojima will speak at the esteemed fest - he has previously attended it back in 2017, where he shared some information regarding his latest passion project. During several interviews, he revealed that the game was in very early stages, his reasoning for bringing actors into video game projects and his general plan for the project.
Death Stranding is for many reasons important to the gaming landscape as it is an ongoing study of how genre-breaking a game can be. The hype surrounding the game is beyond feverish, and one can't help but wonder if this will be a victim of overhype, known victims including No Man's Sky and Anthem. It is also important to Hideo Kojima himself as this will be his first title away from Konami, the publisher for his Metal Gear series.
The Death Stranding panel for the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival will be held on Thursday, April 25th at 6 p.m. EDT. It runs for one hour and is hosted by Geoff Keighley. Hideo Kojima, the game's director, will be accompanied by Norman Reedus, who provides the likeness and voice for the main character. According to a press release from Tribeca, the panel will discuss "pushing the boundaries of the video game medium and talk about how their relationship has established over working on the title together."
