Hitman 3 just keeps getting better and better. Last week, IO Interactive revealed that you will be able to play the game in VR mode, however, as of now, it will only be exclusive to PSVR. The VR mode will launch for both PS4 and PS5 in January 2021.
That’s not all, as you will be able to play Hitman (2016) and Hitman 2 in VR as well, assuming that you already own the two games. Today, developers gave us an insight into how the system will work. Making a third-person game in VR was not just about changing the camera. Several gameplay elements were also tweaked and some new features were added.
“Every little thing wants to take center stage," Eskil Mohl, Senior Game Designer of Hitman 3, said in Developers Insight video. "Before in the third-person game, maybe you got a little distracted from something else but now you can't escape them anymore. They're right in your face. I found myself traversing the levels slower and just taking everything in because it's so dense with detail.”
Playing Hitman 3 and the other two games in VR mode will be like playing an entirely new game. All details and NPC talk that you missed before will be right in front of your screen, not to mention all the crazy things you will be able to do in the game. Insta-buy from me if you can slap an enemy with a fish. I also hope that they don’t remove the homing briefcase.
“We are simulating a living world with a lot of different characters," Creative Director Christian Elverdam further added. "Witnessing that in VR ... you feel a part of that living, breathing world in a completely new way. I think it's going to be raising a few eyebrows.”
As mentioned above, only the PS version of VR is confirmed. It won’t be the first time that a VR mode of a game has been exclusive to only one platform. Resident Evil 7's VR mode can only be played on PSVR and that is bad news for PC players. I hope that VR mode for H3 comes to PC later, or even a first-person mode would be cool.
