If you're looking for a new way to play Hitman, we have good news for you. A new mode is scheduled for January 26 known as Freelancer and it will introduce new types of gameplay.
One way to define this new mode is "strategic planning." To understand this better, the main game can be considered as the VIP version of what it means to be an assassin. Agent 47 may have a lot of work to do but ultimately there's an organization that finds the targets for the player and provides detailed briefings and supply gear.
Freelancer is different, offering players a more independent experience. That means more of the work is now in the hands of the player. For example, players need to build, as well as maintain an arsenal of gear. They'll also be the one to decide on what equipment to bring to missions, deciding on different advantages and disadvantages.
Expand Freedom
By now it should be clear that Freelancer gives players more freedom than ever before. Another way it does is by letting players choose which Syndicates they want to go up against. Players can select it based on their gameplay style, favorite locations, or even personal dislikes to certain types of crime.
Another important thing to consider is the lack of a handler. That means players need to do the recon and investigation work on their own.
Freelancer, in a way, tells players that everything is an opportunity that they can plan for and exploit. It’s not enough to rely on the information obtained when doing missions but also to improvise when the unexpected happens.
Strategic Planning
We’ve mentioned earlier something about “strategic planning” and how it is put in the hands of the player. In a post, IO Interactive revealed that this upcoming game mode uses randomized elements which are rolled independently of each other.
While the game mode does give all available information to players, there’s no guarantee that an objective, for instance, is possible when on the mission. To make sure that they succeed, players need to ensure that a payout objective is possible.
What do you think about Freelancer? Excited about this upcoming new mode?
The franchise started in 2000 with Hitman: Codename 47. The latest title is Hitman 3, available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Stadia.
