Microsoft has just announced the developer version of the HoloLens will start shipping on March 30. Prospective developers can sign up now, with units being priced at $3,000.

Not only that, we also have seen some strange reappearances thanks to the HoloLens. One game already confirmed for the augmented reality device is Young Conker. This platforming game sees a young version of Conker the Squirrel as he jumps and scurries around whatever room you happen to be in.

Thanks to the power of the HoloLens, Young Conker will adapt to whatever happens to be in the room with you at the time. This means that if you are in a room with a couch, the HoloLens will recognize that it is a couch, and the Conker hologram will be able to bounce on it like a couch.

Two more games are said to be included with the device. The first game, called Fragments, sees players take on the role of a crime scene investigator, interacting with clues and people generated by the HoloLens.

The second game is called RoboRaid. This game is a first-person shooter where you must defend your location from an alien invasion. Since the HoloLens is an AR machine, this means RoboRaid will make it look like the aliens are breaking through the actual walls of your home.

A few programs are also said to be included with the device, with more on the way. Skype comes pre-installed on this Microsoft device, while other programs focus on creating AR software and programs, and are aimed at developers.

Microsoft has yet to confirm when a retail version of the HoloLens will be made available. Seeing as how the developer kits will be released at the end of March, we should probably expect to wait another year at least before the HoloLens will be available to the general public.

So what do you think? Are you excited to see the rise of augmented reality along with virtual reality? Do you think you’re more interested in a HoloLens than a Rift or Vive? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
