Horizon Forbidden West was unveiled recently and fans cannot wait for the highly anticipated sequel. Developer Guerilla Games have revealed more details so that you will know what to expect.
The story of the game starts six months after the events of the first installment. Narrative director Ben McCaw said that the story will focus more on the new location known as the Forbidden West.
This new locale will be an entirely new world for Aloy. Players will have to establish their presence and reputation again with the tribes that they’re going to come across.
The main character will be accompanied by some familiar faces, especially those that have been with Aloy during the final events of the first game.
McCaw also added that the Red Blight that was present in Horizon Zero Dawn is still here and Aloy will stop at nothing to prevent the further degradation of the planet’s biosphere.
More Combat Focus
To help Aloy fight much stronger enemies, her abilities and weapons she can use also need to evolve. To do that, you will be given workbenches that you can find in every settlement.
Here, you can find all sorts of weapons, including adhesive grenades, and you can also try new ammo types to help you eliminate the enemy.
Game director Mathijs de Jonge explains that the decision to make new custom weapons allow the game to be even more engaging. If you spend the time and resources, you can upgrade your gear to make better ones as you go along with the story.
Furthermore, you can expect an entirely different skill tree. The new combat system is known as “Valor Surge” and it will make Aloy even more dynamic. In fact, you can customize her abilities to suit your playstyle.
To gain combat XP, you’ll need to have a more tactical approach in battle. This means that you not only whack your enemies to death but you also must use other tools and traps at your disposal.
Gaining combat XP will fill your Valor Surge bar and when that happens, new combat moves can be executed.
Available for PS4 and PS5
People who want to play the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn will be happy to know that the game will be available on both PS4 and PS5.
Jonge said in an interview that a lot of the playtesting for the sequel was done on the Playstation 4. However, if you buy the PS5 version, you can expect even better graphics and new elements will be implemented that are not present in PS4's hardware.
Release Date
During the reveal event, many fans were left wondering when the game will actually be released. That is because the trailer didn’t mention anything regarding that. Could this mean that the game will not be released this year as originally expected? Well, not exactly.
Jonge said that the game is slated to be released in 2021 but has also admitted that the original timeframe will no longer be followed. The reason is they do not want to disclose a specific launch date until they are absolutely sure that they’re going to hit it.
So, what are you most excited about in the sequel?
