Streaming CW shows just got a whole lot easier. Watch The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl live on Hulu! Cord-cutting fans of DC shows have only been waiting years for this option.
The network launched The CW App for Roku, Chromecast, Apple TV, Xbox, and Amazon Fire TV in September last year. While the app allowed fans to stream their favorite DC shows next-day without a cable login, there was no live streaming option. To watch The Flash live, viewers were required to have a cable subscription, get antenna service, or have a Sling TV plan (which does not have CW in all areas).
Last year, Hulu ended its deal with CW, marking the first time the steaming service no longer offered DCTV shows on-demand. Per DCTV’s streaming deal, all the shows arrived on Netflix eight days after the finale aired. Now, it looks like Hulu has returned, taking advantage of Netflix’s lack of live streaming options.
“The CW has long attracted younger audiences to live TV, so we are very happy to offer the network through Hulu’s new live service,” said Tim Connolly, Senior Vice President, Strategic Partnerships & Distribution said in a statement.
“The CW is excited to be a part of Hulu’s groundbreaking new live TV service,” said Chris Brooks, Executive Vice President, Network Distribution, The CW. “This new partnership furthers our goal of expanding our audience across digital platforms.”
DC Entertainment’s deal with Hulu is quite interesting considering DC is launching a streaming service of its own in 2019. The platform will be home to a live-action Teen Titans series, as well as the long awaited Young Justice Season 3. Whether or not the DC service would pick up CW shows such as The Flash and Arrow for on-demand viewing has been a matter of speculation, especially when it comes to deciding whether the cost of the service will be worth it.
The Flash and Arrow are both two of the most pirated shows of the year, which could be largely due to the fact it’s not easy to watch the show live. Hopefully this new deal will help.
Hulu Live plans start at 39.99 a month. DCTV show's premiere on The CW in October.
