iDigitalTimes' first day at CES 2016 is wrapping up and we're looking at our five favorite products and news notes from our first full day in Vegas. Tuesday we learned about FitBit Blaze's five-day battery life, drone racing in the desert, a 3D TV that doesn’t require you to actually wear any glasses and much more.
Stream TV Networks
Tuesday Stream TV Networks talked with iDigi about a 3D TV, called Ultra-D, that doesn't actually require you to wear 3D glasses. While the amazing technology looks great considering you don't have to wear those boggy glasses to enjoy true 3D, the TV's impact on gaming could be more important than just TVs.
“There are a lot of applications in the game space,” Stream TV Games Director Zach Lehman told iDigitalTimes. “Not only for gamers as consumers but game designers — it gives them another plane to work with.”
Drone Rodeo
Near the point where the desert dust and the mountains meet at the Clark County Shooting complex there were drones flying hundreds of feet in the air and zipping around at speeds of more than 50mph at the Drone Rodeo. The event was designed to showcase the latest drone technology and uses.
Although the weather shortchanged some of the events, drones raced through an obstacle course in what could become a televised sport in the near future.
FitBit Blaze
The FitBit Blaze continues FitBit's evolution in wearables. The Blaze adds a full watch face and modular design not seen in previous builds. It has a five-day batter life! Bands for the watch are interchangeable and the sensor can be popped out and placed into different strap settings.
FitBit highlighted three straps at CES 2016: "a Classic line, Luxe Steel line and Luxe Leather line, to encourage users to wear FitBit Blaze throughout the day. CBS Analyst Tony Gonzalez claims the FitBit Blaze transitions seamlessly “from the weight room to the red carpet.'”
PlayStation VR
We wish this could be a lot more newsworthy with an update on the PlayStation VR release date or new features Sony's VR system will have but alas, there is none. The big news out of Sony's press conference today is there was none. Not one mention of the PlayStation VR despite device being a major part of its marketing photos for CES.
iDigi did get a hands-on demo of the PlayStation VR with a frightening game called Until Dawn: Rush of Blood. While immersive, the game was surprising not jarring or disorienting even though you found your self on moving train car/roller coast shooting a ghouls and ghosts popping out for every direction. The game was announced in the Fall and is being developed exclusively for the PlayStation VR for the PS4.
ZTE Z-Community
Sometimes when companies say they really listen to feedback or input, it may feel like just lip service but for ZTE, they mean it. On Tuesday the company announced Z-Community, which is a consumer run forum that will allow users to help create future ZTE smartphones.
“This group will define the next generation of devices that potentially lead the way in creating totally new products and services,” said ZTE vice president of strategic market, Andrew Elliot. If you're interesting in providing your input, you can register at zteusa.com for a chance to be apart of Z-Community
