The New York Comic Con Iron Fist panel brought more than any Marvel-Netflix fan could ever ask for. In addition to new Iron Fist footage, 5 scenes and a trailer, Marvel President Jeph Loeb had a lot more up his sleeve. We learned who will play The Defenders villain -- none other than Sigourney Weaver. We found out multiple characters from Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones will crossover to Iron Fist. And finally, we got an important detail about the next Marvel-Netflix series on the docket, The Punisher. Let’s break it down:
Jeri Hogarth in Iron Fist
Hogarth knows Daredevil and Jessica Jones. At the end of Daredevil Season 2, Hogarth offers Foggy Nelson a job specifically dealing with ‘supernatural’ humans since Nelson and Murdock is done for the time being. It looks like Danny has recruited Hogarth to help him get back his father’s business and fight Harold Meachum on a legal front.
Iron Fist Villain Is The Hand
In the scene with Harold Meachum and Danny revealed at New York Comic Con, Danny wakes up handcuffed in a daze. While being questioned by Meachum, Danny reveals he is a sworn enemy of The Hand (who Daredevil is well-acquainted with) and says he’s the “only one” who can defeat them.
The Defenders Villain
Jeph Loeb officially announces sci-fi queen Sigourney Weaver will play the main villain in The Defenders. She’s gotta have some sort of crazy powers to face Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.
Claire Temple in Iron Fist
Claire will not just reprise her role in Iron Fist , but she’s going to be kicking some ass too. Colleen Wing is going to train her, as suggested in the final scene of Luke Cage where Claire pulls Colleen’s phone number from a poster in Harlem.
Madame Gao in Iron Fist
Watch closely around the 25 second mark in the new Iron Fist trailer to see Madame Gao lurking the shadows. Gao fought off Daredevil’s efforts to bring down her heroin trade. She eventually turned on Wilson Fisk and left New York. She came back to a new enemy, The Blacksmith, who also happens to be a foe of The Punisher.
Karen Page
Karen Page was spotted with Frank Castle in a set photo earlier this week, but Jeph Loeb officially announced her character today at NYCC. She joined surprise guest Jon Bernthal on stage.
Misty Knight in Iron Fist
Jeph Loeb and Jessica Henwick ( who plays Colleen Wing) briefly mentioned Misty Knight’s absence from the panel, suggesting she’ll also be in Iron Fist. Henwick spoke of how she and Misty develop a strong friendship. Earlier this month, Simone Missick (who plays Misty Knight in Luke Cage) confirmed she will be in The Defenders, so it makes sense she’ll appear in Iron Fist too. Misty is good friends with Luke Cage and Claire, and Luke becomes good friends with Danny...the connection is certainly there.
The Punisher Filming
Jeph Loeb confirmed Iron Fist has finished filming and The Punisher has just begun. With Iron Fist releasing Mar. 17, 2017, expect to be hearing a lot more about casting and production for The Punisher and The Defenders, both expected to release sometime later in 2017.
- Colleen Wing is a delight
- The last four episodes are significantly more entertaining
- Problematic character development
- Lackadaisical fight scenes
