Riot just announced the League of Legends MSI in-game results , and North America didn’t do very well. Players worldwide could buy a MSI icon for their region, and if you played games with them equipped you could earn points for your region to win an IP weekend. I didn’t know about the contest until the first week of MSI was over, and most people I played with in-game did not have the icon equipped.
That could explain why NA ended up in third or fourth place, with Turkey taking first place, Europe taking second and Korea taking third. China and the LMS got last place, so I guess we did beat someone. Starting on May 22 at 6 p.m. EDT until 3 a.m. May 23, players who team up in parties earn more IP. A two-player team gets an extra 25 percent more IP, three people gets 50 percent more, four gets 75 percent and five gets double the IP.
You might be wondering why the lowest population country beat out everyone, including the whole continent of Europe. Riot adjusted numbers for inflation, meaning that the larger your population is, the less each individual play counts. It’s hard to believe that anyone could play more League of Legends than Korea; around 10 percent of their population plays the game.
IP is one of the most valuable resources to earn in League of Legends. You can buy anything but skins with it; including champions, runes and rune pages. The more you earn, the more you can do in-game without spending real money. I’ll be queued up with my friends that weekend, hopefully earning me enough to buy Taliyah and get to surf on some rocks.
You can also buy a Korean MSI icon for 250 RP or 1 IP.
