John Constantine was the last person White Canary expected to see hiding out in the back of the Waverider during the midseason finale. Usually, that’s Rip Hunter’s thing. But instead, the cigarette-wielding occult detective stopped by to ask Sara Lance for a favor. After all, he did cure her of bloodlust last time he popped by Starling City. If you haven’t watched Arrow, well, Sara used to be dead... until she was revived in Ra’s al Ghul’s Lazarus Pit. Shit was crazy…
Anyways, what does John Constantine need from Sara? Apparently there’s a demon inside a little girl who knows Sara by name. John is not one to willingly join a team, so it must be an emergency exorcism situation. Check out Matt Ryan’s appearance in the trailer below.
"As for the character of Constantine, we knew that an alienated, chain-smoking, bisexual, world-weary demonologist would feel right at home among our Legends," Legends executive producer Phil Klemmer told the Hollywood Reporter earlier this year.
Constantine’s sexuality is something the cancelled NBC series did not plan to explore, but comic book fans know that John’s relationship with men is canon. The CW has been on top of representation as of late, in the crossover event in particular, and fans have to wonder if it’s why the Earth-X version of Captain Cold was left on Earth-1. Regardless of whether the “hot sex” Klemmer referred to in the THR interview is between Cold and Constantine, there’s no question the two sassy characters’ chemistry will be a highlight of the episode.
"Having Matt Ryan reprise his iconic — dare we say legendary — role of John Constantine on Legends is something that [executive producer] Marc [Guggenheim] and I have been working toward since season one, and now the stars have finally aligned,” Klemmer said.
Legends of Tomorrow Season 3 episode 10, "Daddy Darhkest," airs in February 2018.
