The incredibly fast-paced, intense and balls-to-the-wall title Lethal League Blaze will be coming to consoles later this month, developer and publisher Team Reptile announced through their official Twitter account.
Donning a cel-shaded exterior reminiscent of the 2000 Sega title Jet Set Radio, Lethal League Blaze is quote, “an intense, high speed ball game, with unique characters, outta sight sounds and none of that weak shit”. It definitely lives up to its self-proclaimed description.
The premise revolves around an illegal anti-gravity ball game, and your goal is to survive against up to four players in what can be described as a cocaine-fueled game of hot potato. Each character is able to to Smash, Bunt or use abilities unique to them to propel the ball towards their enemies. Manipulating the ball to get the perfect angle and choosing the correct move to speed up (or double speed, the game doesn’t know the word slow) the ball is essential to beat your opponents into submission.
Once you ‘git gud’ at the game (which is no easy feat), you can start parrying, countering and taunting your opponents. Practicing isn’t the only reward in itself, as by mastering the ball, you also unlock tons of extras such as new characters and cosmetic upgrades. And if you’re getting tired of being beat up by other people, you can play Arcade Mode to vent your frustrations on innocent AIs. A Story mode is also available if you want to know the ins and outs of Shine City, the game’s location.
The Lethal League sequel, which has been released since October of 2018 for PC, is currently sitting with an “Overwhelmingly Positive” on its Steam page. With praise for its addictive quality, top notch soundtrack and overall fun factor, it surely will be a welcome addition to the console world.
Lethal League Blaze will launch on July 12, 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch. Also, through a partnership with Japanese publisher Oizumi Amuzio, Lethal League Blaze will be receiving a physical release on September 12 for the Japanese market. If you can’t wait that long, the Steam version is available to play now, with a discounted price thanks to the Steam Summer Sale.
