Madden 17 has a Week 3 update, and some player ratings have been tweaked in a big way. Stars like Russell Wilson and Darrelle Revis have fallen out of the elusive 90 percent club.
Per a recent EA Sports blog post, we see most of the update’s changes correlate to a decrease in stats as opposed to an improvement. Following lackluster performances against the Bills and Rams, Revis and Wilson were both docked by two points alongside Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers. The latter member of that trio maintains a stellar player rating of 95, but the others have slipped to 89. One point docks are also in place for Khalil Mack, Tyron Smith, Joe Thomas, Eric Berry, Travis Frederick and Cardinals QB Carson Palmer.
Of course, not all of Madden 17’s strongest players were nerfed. Leading the upward trend was Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney with a four-point player rating boost to 88. While not quite as significant, Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson was also bumped by two points. One-point buffs include Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, Greg Olsen, Desmond Trufant, Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. The changes can be seen in a handy list on Operation Sports.
Thankfully, it appears none of the impacted players in the Week 3 update carried over from Week 2. In other words, good performances in Sunday’s matchups could easily bring some of the struggling stars back to their former stats.
In terms of games, the highest-profile ones to watch include upcoming clashes between the Bears and Cowboys, Bills and Cardinals and Chargers and Colts. Based on some of these results, there’s certainly a hint of which players might be tweaked in the Week 4 patch.
Madden 17 is available now on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3.
