'Marvel Rivals' Dev Officially Unveils Season 1: Eternal Night Falls to Add New Heroes, Story, Villain, and More

NetEase Games has officially revealed Season 1: Eternal Night Falls for the studio's highly popular 6v6 hero shooter "Marvel Rivals," detailing what it would add to the game.

The main addition to the game with the latest update is the Fantastic Four family of heroes, which introduces four new characters to "Marvel Rivals." NetEase Games shared a trailer that showcased everything fans need to know about the Season 1 update.

Another noteworthy part of the trailer is that Dracula and Doctor Doom join forces to engulf New York in darkness, which is the new storyline this time around. +4The official blurb notes that the Timestream Entanglement has left Doctor Strange trapped in the Entangled Astral Plane.

Now, the two villains have disrupted the moon's orbit and have plunged New York City into eternal night. They have unleashed an army of vampiric creatures to wreak havoc amongst the citizens.

To counter their enemies, the Fantastic Four will join up with iconic Marvel superheroes to engage in battle to break the mystical darkness using the power of science. Players will be able to face off against Dracula himself in the new update, according to IGN.

The official release date of "Marvel Rivals" Season 1: Eternal Night Falls is Jan. 10, 2025, at 1:00 a.m. PST. It comes as the game quickly became a viral hit among players who have been looking for some fun action alternatives for games like "Overwatch 2."

Brand New Content

"Marvel Rivals" is a free-to-play team-based PvP shooter that originally launched on Dec. 6, 2024, on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. During its launch weekend, the game peaked with 480,990 concurrent players.

Season 1 will also add New York City as a new map for "Marvel Rivals" players to fight against other teams on. The addition of Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Thing, and Human Torch have not revealed their respective roles in the game, Forbes said.

In "Marvel Rivals," there are three categories that heroes fall under: Duelist, Strategist, and Vanguard. These play similar roles to damage dealers, support, and tanks, respectively, and dictate the general playstyle of a particular character.

Additionally, NetEase Games has not yet confirmed whether the four heroes will be coming as one or will be split into two pairs to be added to "Marvel Rivals."

Fans have already started to discuss the new storyline and what it could mean for the game, according to PCGamer.
