It’s been a long time coming for Marvel’s Runaways, and in just a few weeks, fans will have what they’ve been waiting for since 2008 when the first rumor picked up steam. Eight years later, in August 2016, Marvel officially announced the series would come to fruition on Hulu. Now more than a year later, we have our first trailer. It was worth the wait.
This is a very generous trailer. If you attended the Marvel’s Runaways New York Comic Con panel, you’ll notice all the important elements of the first episode are incorporated. Once best friends, this circle of teenagers reunite after a tragic event in the friend group that tore them apart. Hanging out at Alex’s house after school one day, they discover their parents are experimenting with some sort of spooky, cult magic involving human sacrifices. “None of our parents are who we thought,” Nico says as the power in Alex’s house shuts off.
The first two episodes of Marvel’s Runaways will be largely character introductions. The main cast is huge, comprised of the six kids (The Runaways) and their parents (who call themselves Pride). If you’re not familiar with the comic books, that’s a lot of characters to remember. We may have to wait until later in the season to see how the Runaways earn their name in an attempt to stop their villainous parents.
The Runaways were created by Brian K. Vaughan, who serves as a producer on the series. The show appears to stay extremely faithful to the comics; at least, that's what the fans told us after the series premiered at New York Comic Con. All reactions to the first episode so far have been positive. Only one fan is apprehensive about the production value a streaming service like Hulu can provide, opposed to Netflix or a premium channel.

- Smart and weird enough to escape cliches
- Stays true to source material
- So many characters
- It's still a teen drama
