A new cinematic trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda has been released by BioWare to celebrate N7 Day. The trailer doesn’t reveal much information, nor does it show actual gameplay, but it certainly does look pretty.

The trailer, which can be seen above, starts with a voiceover talking about how people have slept for hundreds of years to make it to the Andromeda Galaxy in search of a new home. Upon arriving, things haven’t gone very smoothly.

Based on the line “you’re the new Pathfinder,” while panning over that young man’s face, it feels safe to make two conclusions. One, this is the face of Scott Ryder, the main male protagonist of Mass Effect: Andromeda. If players choose to play as a female, the character’s name will be Sarah Ryder. First names have been confirmed in this article released by Game Informer.

The second conclusion is that someone, possibly the Ryder children’s father, has probably died. This person likely was the original Pathfinder, hence why Ryder is looking so sad when he is told he will be the new Pathfinder. A Pathfinder’s job likely involves finding a new planet that will be hospitable for future human life.

As we move on, we see a floating alien that looks like it is made out of rock. In a sinister voice, the creature says “this is incredible.” It feels like a safe bet this is the main antagonist in Mass Effect: Andromeda, but maybe I’m judging this book a little bit too much based on the cover.

Other sights to see in this trailer include what looks to be a Salarian companion helping fight alongside you and a gigantic metallic, flying snake monster. While it may look like a boss from Shadow of the Colossus, this could be some creature similar to the Thresher Maw that will prove a formidable opponent.

Some interesting actions we see the characters perform include setting hidden bombs and blowing them up remotely in what looks like stealth gameplay and messing with a drone. This drone could be an enemy that you have hacked to work for you, or your own device designed to fight alongside you.

The end of the trailer brings that rock-looking character back, and to further suggest that he will be the villain, he appears to grab Ryder by the throat after saying “now I know what makes you special.” Sounds like creepy stuff for sure.

The trailer ends with a message saying that Mass Effect: Andromeda will be coming out in “Spring 2017.” No further information about a release date have been mentioned yet.
