A new Minecraft mash-up pack is headed to consoles and handheld devices, Mojang announced on Thursday morning, bringing the iconic Fallout franchise into the beloved sandbox game for the first (officially sanctioned) time. Details on the Fallout Mash-Up Pack are still a bit scarce but we do know a few things about the next big add-on for Minecraft: Console Edition.
According to Mojang, the Fallout Mash-Up Pack features 44 unique character skins, including fan favorites like Nick Valentine and Paladin Cross. You can even dress your character up like Jangles the Moon Monkey, the stuffed animal that can be seen (and looted) throughout the what’s left of Boston in Fallout 4 . It will also include new skins for a variety of blocks. The Fallout Mash-Up Pack even overhauls the standard Minecraft user interface, redesigning it to look more like the Pip-boy interface Fallout fans are familiar with.
What’s interesting, even if not necessarily surprising, is that the Fallout Mash-Up pack will also be available on platforms the Fallout franchise has never graced. Sure, we’ve seen Fallout games on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. But we’re pretty sure this is the first time we’ve seen official Fallout content on the PlayStation Vita (without Remote Play) or Nintendo 3DS. Unfortunately, today’s announcement didn’t include a release date for the new content -- presumably because it would be hard to nail down a single release date for so many different platforms -- but Mojang says the Fallout Mash-Up Pack will be $5.99 when it hits Minecraft: Console Edition in the near future.
Minecraft is currently available on PlayStation 3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, PC, iOS and Android. If you close your eyes and wish really hard, Mojang might even release a port for your favorite smart home appliance.
