Publisher Playstack and developer Cold Symmetry have just announced that their upcoming Souls-like action role-playing title Mortal Shell will soon be hosting a PC closed beta early next month. This news was announced during IGN’s Summer of Gaming 2020 live stream.
The Mortal Shell beta will run from July 3 to July 10. So far, players are confirmed to be able to play with two shells and wield either the Hammer and Chisel or the Hallowed sword as their primary weapons. As for the location, players will start off in Fallgrim, find their first shell there, and battle enemies until they find the Crypt of Martyrs.
For those interested, beta codes can be acquired through multiple ways according to an announcement on the official Mortal Shell Discord server. First is through their main social media channels: Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram (all @mortalshellgame). Signing up on the game’s mailing list also provides chances to get codes as they will be distributed among randomly selected groups that are signed up. If you’re one of the lucky ones to get a beta code, the developers have noted that you are able to share gameplay footage, but datamining is highly discouraged as it might spoil key storylines or features not yet announced.
For those who are out of the loop, Mortal Shell is touted as a Souls-like RPG and was originally announced in April. It is aiming for a Q3 2020 release for the PC via Steam, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. According to its Steam page description, Mortal Shell is a title that will “test your sanity and resilience in a shattered world.” Basically, the player-character is a yet-to-be-seen frail entity that takes form through the titular Mortal Shell. These corporeal forms will dictate how players approach the game’s combat. Aside from that, nothing notable has been divulged yet regarding the story (which makes sense considering the game’s two-year secret development), but let’s hope that it isn’t as absurd and surreal as any of the Souls series.
Mortal Shell will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam in Q3 2020.
