NBA 2K17 gameplay director Mike Wang continues to tweak the game with formal updates and server-based adjustments. While the 1.05 patch is coming, changes for badges and shot sticking will seemingly arrive sooner.

That much can be confirmed via Wang’s recently posted update:

“When the next tuning update hits,” it reads, “you’re still going to see the aiming arrow show up on deep post shots.”

It’s further added, however, that penalties will not be doled out for bad aim on those particular shots. Penalties should only trigger if the bucket distance is between 18 to 19 feet. In addition to that, it was confirmed that the formal 1.05 patch will “change the aiming mechanic so that each of the cardinal directions are considered perfect aim.”

In other words, for the next big round of fixes, players shooting from 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock won’t be penalized. The arrow should also act as a clean-shot indicator too. No word has been given on when the changes will go live, but they don't appear to be accessible at the time of writing.

Also related to shooting are a few separate frustrations that will be addressed soon as well. The Relentless Finisher badge is currently broken, which means contested layups aren’t exactly a successful way to score points right now. That will be remedied, but Wang suggests “using more floaters in the meantime.” Shot foul logic is also being reworked in the hopes that players will eventually come to better understand proper defense.

Lastly, in that same vein, are undisclosed updates to NBA 2K17’s illegal screen mechanic that's not really active right now. Just like an actual NBA game, however, the goal is for this year’s title to gauge and punish screens that exhibit too much contact.

NBA 2K17 has previously dealt with chronic shooting issues in the form of a shot meter glitch that made getting buckets much more difficult. This was later compensated with a “band-aid” adjustment, but that temporary measure will be removed in the coming days and weeks. What we see from the most recent update is 2K’s attempt to further solidify the most necessary feature of any basketball game.

NBA 2K17 is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
