A new Code Vein feature from the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu shines new light on the world and characters we’ll explore when Bandai Namco’s next action RPG hits PC and consoles in 2018. And it’s no minor update, either. Famitsu has details on major characters, buildings we’ll visit frequently and even more backstory on mankind’s transition from everyday people to blood-crazed vampires.
Thankfully, the folks over at DualShockers already have their hands on a copy of the magazine and published all the major bullet points. The new Code Vein feature apparently includes several images of a dilapidated church the protagonist and his allies will use their base of operations. NPCs will gather at the church, a possible nod to the shrines and other religiously-themed gathering points from Souls games, and descriptions of the facility (including the presence of a dart board and pool table) suggest there may be some recreational activities available. Those objects could just be decor, but Famitsu didn’t clarify either way.
Players will able to buy (and presumably sell) valuable items from a Revenant named Coco. She’s lost her memories, like many residents of Vein, but still believes they can be recovered. Equipment orders will be handled by another Revenant, Rin, who stopped fighting after an undisclosed trauma. Bandai Namco also provided some new information on the Calamity, a series of events, including the arrival of numerous monsters, that forced humanity to create the Revenants (vampires). The Revenants’ immortality is apparently derived from a bio-engineered parasite that rejuvenates organs but gradually eats away at its host’s memories. It also gives the host a thirst for blood that must be quenched, lest they be driven insane by it. It all sounds pretty bleak.
