Gamers, iDigitalTimes included, jumped on a job posting found on game developer Visceral’s website looking for a new developer. We all assumed this posting was for the upcoming Star Wars game being led by Amy Hennig. Turns out, we were wrong.
This news comes from an interview Geek League of America had with Todd Stashwick. Stashwick is the co-writer, along with Hennig, on the upcoming game. In the interview, Stashwick denies the rumors of an open world game starring Han Solo.
“The Internet thinks that we’re doing an open world, RPG Han Solo game. None of that is anything we’ve [Visceral] talked about,” Stashwick said at around the 18:30 mark in the interview. “We have not released anything about the game other than Amy Hennig is the creative director, Visceral is the developer, and I’m co-writing it.”
Stashwick made a point not to release any new information, so it seems we’re back to square one on this. He also confirms this game is NOT the remains of Star Wars 1313. This new game is just that, entirely new.
As for other information on the mysterious project, we know we won’t be playing it any time soon. During a financial report call, EA mentioned the game was still a few years away from release. Drew Crum, an analyst at Stifel Nicolaus, asked how EA was planning on limiting their SKUs going forward. The response from Blake Jorgensen, EA’s CFO, reveals the Star Wars game’s future.
“[W]e are obviously announcing that we are investing in some action-based SKUs by bringing people like Jade Raymond and Amy Henning into our organization to help build those,” Jorgensen said on the call. “And those are obviously a few years out in our SKU plan.”
For now, it looks like we’re going to have to wait on EA and Visceral to find out more. Based on what Stashwick said in his interview, the company is trying to keep everything under wraps as best as possible, so don’t believe the rumors that pop up online.
So what do you think? Are you excited about whatever this new game could be? Are you sad to hear it will not be the open world Han Solo RPG fans were hoping it would be? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
