New ‘League Of Legends’ Season Begins Today, Says Riot; Client Testing To Continue In 2016

It's officially time for the 2016 League of Legends competitive season. But that doesn't mean Riot Games is finished working on the League of Legends client update promised late last year.

Those beginning to suffer from withdrawals, over the lack of competitive League play in their life, can finally rest easy. It’s time for the 2016 League of Legends pro season to begin!

We’re only a few weeks into the New Year, and even less removed from the debut of League of Legends Patch 6.1, but Riot Games is apparently ready to dive into the next season of competitive play. The news comes courtesy of an announcement on the League of Legends website, the most common repository of new information on LoL, published in the early hours of Wednesday morning. It’s not an especially long post, given the nature of the news, but one that should kick off plenty of excitement among fans of League of Legends pro scene.

Of course, the arrival of the 2016 competitive season will likely create some minor controversies of its own. Many players likely assumed we’d see more of the promised League of Legends client update prior to the start of the 2016 season, given the impact a new client could potentially have on the competitive scene. That said, provided the folks at Riot are able to continue their work without heavily impacting the pro teams, there’s no reason to think we won’t continue to see additional client updates throughout the year. Let’s just hope League’s increasingly out-dated game engine is the next bit in line for an upgrade.

Those interested in learning more about the recent (and upcoming) changes to the League of Legends client can find additional information on the game’s website. You’ll also find patch notes for League of Legends 6.1 and details on the changes coming to Ranked games this season.
