Developer Sunny Side Up has just released a new trailer for a life simulation title that follows the adventures of a little witch. Titled Little Witch in the Woods, it is due to release for PC via Steam in 2021.
An overview of the game provided by the developer tells the background of Little Witch in the Woods’ plot. It follows little witch Ellie, who is currently in witch school. To graduate, she must work as an apprentice in a witch’s house. However, when she arrives at the witch’s house, she is greeted with a worn-out house in a village that is populated by a mere handful of people. This is where her story starts as she attempts to revive the quaint little village and, at the same time, pass just in time for graduation from witch school.
Little Witch in the Woods’ gameplay is witchcraft mixed with Stardew Valley. This is very accurate considering that this is one of the inspirations that helped guide development of the game. It is open-ended, with random quests that pop up from time to time that move the storyline forward. The main mechanic that makes Little Witch in the Woods interesting for prospective players is the presence of magic, specifically potion making, which can be learned in the witch’s house. To learn these potions, Ellie must interact with the different flora and fauna that make up the multiple ecosystems within the woods. Also, she can explore the village, talk with the villagers that come and go, learn their life stories, and maybe get clues as to where she can get the next ingredient for her latest potion. These potions can be used to improve the town little by little, improve Ellie's skills, and maybe even help her find a lifelong partner by love bombing a villager - maybe not even a human villager.
Little Witch in the Woods is set to release for PC via Steam in 2021. Sunny Side up has also confirmed that there is also a potential for Nintendo Switch versions and PlayStation 4 versions to follow. Lastly, only a single player mode is in the works, but once Little Witch in the Woods launches and the demand is there, Sunny Side Up will definitely consider adding one in later.
