Yes, that is right – a new Need For Speed game is coming this year. The only catch, however, is that it is not going to be part of the upcoming E3 or even EA Play.
In a blog post on EA’s official site, community manager Ben Walke revealed that a new game is coming this year. He defines it as “a truly memorable high-speed entry into the 25 years of Need For Speed.” Unfortunately, Walke is careful not to expose any significant details about the new installment on his post.
"Are you going to hear more about the next NFS title? Yes. Is it being released this year? Yes. Will we be doing anything in June? No," Walke said in the post. "It’s as simple as that, but we wanted to give you a heads up before you started asking ‘where are you?’"
Walke also went to Twitter to reveal the news, while confirming the fact that it will not be part of EA Play. “Staying at home to work on the game,” he said.
The community manager has been vocal about the essence of Need Of Speed, which is basically about cars and customization. However, he said that each entry in the franchise has “the culmination” of lots of different aspects, and this is something they want to incorporate with the new game.
Sure, one could say Walke has used a lot of phrases to hype the title, but it definitely is big news. After all, it has been almost three years since the latest iteration (i.e. Need For Speed Payback) was released, and fans are definitely hungry for a brand new title.
Details about what the new Need For Speed game is about, including its features and whatnot, are still under wraps. Walke tells fans that they are here, trying to build an amazing title that they cannot wait to show off. “And the next time we talk, we’ll be packing our bags and heading south for the full unveiling,” he said. “We’ll see you then.”
Walke mentioned before that the new game will somehow be similar to the 2015 entry in the franchise, although he did not explain what he exactly meant by that.
