A new Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom overview trailer debuted this week, offering a brief tour of major features and gameplay mechanics. But the new clip won’t make the next seven weeks leading up to Ni no Kuni 2’s late March debut seem any shorter.
We’re always happy to see new footage of highly anticipated games. But the latest Revenant Kingdom trailer is sort of a mixed bag for non-Japanese fans. The good news is that this week’s trailer offers quick looks at all of Ni no Kuni 2’s most important game mechanics, from party management to world exploration. The bad news is there isn’t an English version of the clip yet. So if there’s any new information, or specific details you might find interesting, we’ll have to wait for someone fluent in Japanese to roundup the reveals. But you still might learn a thing or two from the new trailer … like the fact that at least one location in the game will be watched over by a disconcertingly large eyeball. Don’t believe us?
A basic familiarity with overview trailers, which seem to be pretty common these days, makes it easy to follow along with Level-5’s new tour of Ni no Kuni 2. We get to see King Evan and his party exploring the world, including stints in a boat, and initiating combat against one of the many monsters (and other enemies) players will encounter on the world map. We also see a bit of the game’s radically different combat mechanics; specifically, the action RPG-style fights that replaced the creature battles from Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. The combat changes are definitely old news. But anyone who hasn’t kept a close eye on Revenant Kingdom’s development should check it out.
The new Ni no Kuni 2 trailer also offers another look at the game’s kingdom building mechanics. Players will build community buildings and other support structures, improving their access to some resources, as King Evan and his followers fight to reclaim his throne. We also get a sneak peak at aesthetic changes we can expect as the kingdom continues to grow.
