Before there was The Last of Us, Naughty Dog made its reputation of incredible storytelling from its illustrious Uncharted franchise. And as beautifully crafted as The Last of Us was, Uncharted is still the series that I place in a higher regard. Which is why it's so depresing to learn Naughty Dog intends to end the series for good with the upcoming Uncharted: The Lost Legacy side story expansion featuring Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross.
“I would say that Naughty Dog doing an Uncharted after this is unlikely,” studio co-president Evan Wells told Game Informer. “I would never say never, but we've got The Last of Us Part 2 on our plates and there's so much other stuff that [we want to explore].
“We really love the franchise, but the studio has limited resources and lots of other ideas.”
The Uncharted: The Lost Legacy story DLC is slated to arrive later this year and will follow Nadine Ross in her search for a legendary Indian artifact known as the Tusk of Ganesh. The Lost Legacy will take place a year after the events of Uncharted 4, where Ross decides to abandon the hunt for Henry Avery's treasure for good and search for fortune elsewhere.
"We've spent the better part of the last 10 years on a journey with Nathan Drake, but as his story came to a close in Uncharted 4 and we looked ahead to the series’ first-ever story DLC, we were faced with an unprecedented question: whose story did we want to tell next? Over the years, we’ve assembled an incredible cast of characters, but of them all, we kept coming back to one in particular: Chloe Frazer," Naughty Dog stated in its announcement last year. "As the smooth-talking master thief that debuted in Uncharted 2, Chloe is not only one of our favorite characters, but we know she’s a favorite amongst our community. She’s also a strong and enigmatic character —in other words, perfect to be our lead protagonist in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy."
