Amazon Game Studios is in hot water again as a new duping exploit in New World has forced developers to shut the game’s economy down until further notice.
Developing a game is not as easy as one might think. Many things could go wrong, and that may just be what happened in New World.
Recently, user “Poverty” went to the game’s official forums to report a furniture duplication bug, complete with steps on how to do it. They even included a video, but it has since been taken down.
Apparently, when you are lagging, you can move the item you want to duplicate around then pick it up. This can affect the economy as players can easily reproduce items as if getting them for free.
That said, the developers seem aware of the situation. "We are aware of a possible duplication exploit that has been circulating the forums and social media. We are disabling all forms of wealth transfer between players while we investigate," posted community manager Tosch.
He added that once the exploit has been thoroughly investigated, they will enable wealth transfer again. This means that player-to-player trading, sending currency, transacting through the guild treasury, and using the trading post are temporarily disabled.
No Update
This exploit was brought to light yesterday, and developers still have nothing to say about it. Their lack of transparency has caused some people to ask for an update because wealth transfer is an integral part of the game.
User @ThatBr1tGuy said that it has been more than a day since the issue was announced, yet they do not have a clue as to when it will be turned back on.
Another user is pissed that the auction house is down again. They went on to say that while they like New World ’s atmosphere, the repeating problems caused by some cheaters have made them lose their patience, considering that the whole population has to suffer from it.
On Reddit, Redditor @Dynasty2201 is baffled that a huge company like Amazon can't get the most basic functions of their new MMO to work as intended.
Do you play New World? If so, how do you feel about this issue?
