Somebody is clearly not doing their job correctly. Nicki Minaj announced today that she would not be performing at the 58th annual Grammys. This follows an announcement several days ago, when fellow Young Money rapper Drake also announced that he would actually NOT be performing. Drake’s Twitter memo came after a Grammys Super Bowl ad showcased the rapper just hours beforehand. “I am not performing at the Grammy Awards…but hey it’s the thought that counts,” he tweeted Sunday night.

The Grammys commercial that aired during the Super Bowl featured multiple artists that included Nicky, Drake, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Adele and a dozen others. What’s more, the ad also teased that these artists would all perform at the Grammys within the first hour. What the heck?

“I know I’m in the commercial but I actually won’t be performing,” said Minaj in an Instagram post. “I want to thank the Grammys for being super sweet & supportive & for recognizing The Pinkprint. Maybe next year will make more sense in terms of timing and I'll create a very special performance for you guys,” she continued.

No one on either side of the mishap has explained why this false advertising has happened once, yet alone twice. Is there some sort of pattern to this? Are Drake and Nicki Minaj purposefully withholding Young Money performances from the Grammys? Are they doing merely as a partnership, considering the duo’s friendship and frequent collaboration? Or is this simply a pair of random mistakes? We may never know.

The weird thing is that Drake seemed kind of annoyed with the Grammys, almost as if he were calling them out. Nicki, on the other hand, is apologetic and hopeful for another chance. Strange…

Anyways, there’s still a bunch of superstar acts performing at this year’s Grammys. It’s sure to be one of the most talked about events of the year, as always. Tune in and check it out 5:00 p.m. ET Monday, Feb. 15, on CBS.
