Nintendo has lowered the price of the Nintendo 2DS handheld system to $79.99 from $99.99. That price includes a full game download of Mario Kart 7.
“Nintendo 2DS is the best value available for a portable dedicated gaming system and is great for gaming on the go,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing in a press release. “The system has a library full of high-quality games for purchase, some in our Nintendo Selects category for less than $20 each, featuring Mario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi and Zelda.”
The 2DS has always been pegged by Nintendo as the perfect starter handheld system for kids. Moffitt told us back at E3 2015 that the 2DS was for the young or value-conscious, while the old 3DS XL targeted gamers who want to play on a larger screen but in a more affordable way relative to the New 3DS XL.
The New 3DS XL is the flagship console with all the bells and whistles. This allows for gamers to choose how they jump into the 3DS platform. The size, price and hardware capabilities of the Nintendo 2DS are ideal for anyone who wants to try out Nintendo’s handheld titles and in 2016, there will be plenty of awesome games to get.
Not only is the new Kirby game, Planet Robobot about to release on June 10, but the next installment of the Pokémon franchise, Sun and Moon will hit stores on Nov. 18, so anyone looking to get into handheld gaming can feel right at home with the new 2DS price point.
