With Nintendo’s E3 Direct recently concluded, it’s time to take a look at some of the best titles announced on their conference. In particular, Nintendo showcased Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, a sports title for all ages – or, if you’re just a big fan of the Nintendo and Sega franchise rivalry.
The E3 Direct was much more liberal with its information this time around, showing off some firsthand gameplay footage for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, which will debut this November for the Switch. This was all condensed into a minute-long trailer which, while short, contained so much information on what the title will be like once it releases. Check it out below.
The trailer kicks off with a look at the stadium where you’ll be able to play. It looks a lot more alive compared to the last time the two company mascots competed, with thousands of spectators filling stands, cheering for their favorite characters. We then get a glimpse of the first event, track, competed by some of the characters. The confirmed roster is quite expansive, with Mario, Sonic, Luigi, Knuckles, Peach, Amy, Dr. Eggman, Yoshi, Tails, and more to be announced soon.
We then got a look at one of the newest Olympic events available for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, which is surfing. According to Nintendo, the game features different ways to play the game, including motion controls with Joy-Cons for those who have become quite used to them. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will also feature both local split-screen and online multiplayer, bringing fun to groups of people.
We also got a look at a skateboarding event competed in by both Yoshi and Knuckles, as well as Peach kicking Tails in the face in a Karate match-up. In addition, all the classic events will return for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, including gymnastics, swimming, 110m hurdles, football, equestrian, and archery.
Sega previously had announced that it will be bringing Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 with their E3 lineup of playable titles this year, seeing as the publisher will be handling the publishing rights for it this time around.
