No Man’s Sky, one of the most anticipated games of the year, is coming to PS4 and PC on June 21, and in the last few weeks, we’ve learned a lot more about how the game will actually be released. For one thing, we’re going to have to pay full freight for it—the game has such scope that it’s not being released as an indie game but as a full $60 release. Second, No Man’s Sky—a game that has electrified the gaming community and the rest of the media with its potential—is getting a super-fancy, super-expensive limited edition. Let’s take a look and decide if it’s worth it—or if you should get one of the other limited editions instead.
Is The No Man’s Sky Limited Edition Worth It?
The revelation that No Man’s Sky, which has generally been billed as an indie game (it was created by a team that originally consisted of just four people), would cost a full $60 brought a lot of bellyaching around the blogosphere—more because of expectations than anything else because the game clearly has a huge amount of content. Nobody’s worried about running out of things to do in No Man’s Sky.
The fanciest No Man’s Sky Limited Edition, though, is another matter entirely. Known as the “Explorer’s Edition,” this guy’s pricy—it clocks in at a steep $149.99 for the PC version of the game. Its primary feature is a cast metal replica of the main ship in No Man’s Sky, at a 1:35 scale, and hand-painted. The company producing the set, which is limited to 10,000 units, says that alone is worth $125, and is entirely metal, rather than the more common plastic . The pack also includes various decals for the ship, as well as a pin, a diorama display, a “mystery item” and a “rad box.” All good, right? If you’re into physical collectibles and can afford the set, it’s a no-brainer. That’s a pretty solid ship you’re getting.
If $150 is steep for you, or if you just want the PlayStation 4 version of the game, GameStop has you covered—the retailer’s exclusive No Man’s Sky PS4 edition runs for a more modest $79.99 and includes a physical version of the game in a steelbook, a 48 page art book, a comic book, a PS4 theme, and a few pieces of in-game DLC—a ship boost, a weapon blueprint, and some in-game resources, including 10,000 extra credits. For just a $20 premium over the base game, it’s not a bad deal. It comes with a book, after all. Unlike the PC Explorer’s Edition, the PS4 edition isn’t limited to a certain number of copies, although it’s still worth preordering from GameStop if you’re really jonesing for it.
What do you think? Are any of the No Man’s Sky limited editions of interest to you?
