The time is almost here when gamers can finally put money towards the Oculus Rift headset. Starting at 11:00 AM EST on Jan. 6, gamers can log on to oculus.com to try and get a pre-order in. No price for the pre-order has been announced yet.
While the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset still doesn't have a firm release date, Oculus CEO Palmer Luckey announced on Twitter the Rift's manufacturing is still on track for a Q1 2016 release.
Luckey says the manufacturing process for the Oculus Rift is continuing on schedule. While Luckey, and Oculus, still haven't confirmed when the Rift will actually be available for people to buy and use, they have reaffirmed the Rift is coming in early 2016.
Speaking of Oculus Rift pre-orders, many people have already gotten their hands on a demo of the space dogfighting game EVE: Valkyrie, but few know how or when they can actually own a copy. This question has been answered (sort of). It seems a copy of EVE: Valkyrie will be included for free with every pre-order of the Oculus Rift headset.
According to the VRfocus, both Oculus and CCP Games, the developers behind EVE: Valkyrie, have confirmed this announcement. Luckey sounded very excited about the bundled game.
“EVE: Valkyrie is one of the most anticipated virtual reality games, and one of the first true VR games to go into development," Luckey said according to VRfocus. "It perfectly captures the promise of immersive gaming, shooting you into a sci-fi adventure as you pilot a spaceship in search of combat. Battling your friends (and enemies) in multiplayer space dogfights is the ultimate VR thrill, and we’re excited to partner with CCP to bring this experience to Rift owners everywhere.”
EVE: Valkyrie is also slated to come to PS4 using the PlayStation VR headset. CCP Games has yet to reveal any release information on this version. We also don't know when the PlayStation VR headset will be released.
What we DO know is that the Oculus Rift headset will likely cost around $300 when it is released, and that the PlayStation VR headset will cost about as much as a console. The Oculus Rift will also release with an Xbox One controller.
We also know that every Oculus Rift will also come bundled with the game Lucky's Tale. This VR platformer will see players taking the role of Lucky, a fun-loving fox.
