What happens when you take JRPG elements and mix it with farming and monster taming and sprinkle some aspects of life simulation? You get Ova Magica! It's coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch in late 2023.
To give you an idea of what to expect, a new trailer has been released to show some of the gameplay and features. Check it out below:
A Mix of Different Elements
It's clear that Ova Magica is an ode to some fan favorite games Stardew Valley, Slime Rancher, Harvest Moon, Story of Seasons, Pokémon, Grandia, Jade Cocoon, and Azure Dreams.
In the game, players manage a farmstead located on the outskirts of a small town known as Clover Town. There's a lot of colorful manga-stylized NPCs that players can engage with through conversations, gifts, and blob battles. As the relationship with these locals and the town increases, the secrets of Clover Town slowly unlock. The secrets include hidden temples, dungeons, and possibly portals to exotic dimensions. These different and new worlds offer strange items and priceless artifacts that hold the key to the future of the town.
Meet the Blob
In the game, there are blobs that live in the wild and players need to go on adventures to get their eggs. It’s important to remember that blobs have a connection to their environment. That means fire-themed blobs can be found in desert dungeons.
Once players get an egg, they can hatch it and raise and train the blob to make it their sidekick and companion. There are many things these blobs can do and one of them is fighting. They also have special abilities which are helpful on the farm. Players can make their blobs stronger as well by crossbreeding them with other blobs.
The Clover Town
The surroundings of Clover Town offer players several things to do, like chopping down trees and growing and harvesting crops. Players can also sell their goods at the farmer’s market to get the funds needed to build their home or expand the town.
