PlayStation announced that it is planning to launch what it calls the Indies Initiative, a way to spotlight, as well as support, the best of the best when it comes to indie games. This initiative also hopes to support the indie community as a whole and hope to make PlayStation the best place to not only find and play great indie games, but also to develop them.
This was revealed in a post by Shuhei Yoshida, the Head of PlayStation Indies. According to Yoshida, he has been a big fan when it comes to indies and has been working with different departments over at Sony Interactive Entertainment with the goal of improving efforts to make the lives of indie developers easier and have “their titles shine in this super competitive videogame market.”
Talking further about the initiative, Yoshida went on to say that the “indie community is increasingly important for the future of the video game industry.” He added that this is because “AAA game development has grown so financially demanding that big companies are finding it harder to take risks to invest in new concepts that may or may not work.”
He also revealed that a new indie title is going to join the PlayStation Now service each month starting with Hello Neighbor this July. For those not familiar, this survival horror stealth game has players try to sneak successfully into a neighbor’s basement in order to uncover a secret.
That’s not all Yoshida announced. Nine titles are set to debut not only with the PlayStation 4, but also the PlayStation 5.
PlayStation Plus for July
PlayStation Plus recently celebrated its 10th birthday earlier this week. PlayStation Global Store Services General Manager Nick Maguire said in a post that they are thanking everyone for the support and it has been a memorable journey “bringing gamers together and providing access to compelling content and exclusive discounts for our members.”
That said, three new games available for PS Plus members from July 7 to August 3. The first is NBA2K20, a platform where gamers and ballers can come together and create what’s next in basketball culture. Then there is Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, where players get to help the iconic Lara Croft uncover an ancient mystery. The third free game is Erica, a feature-length cinematic experience that offers engaging and tactical gameplay combined with high-fidelity Hollywood production values.
