Sony has stayed silent long enough. For the last few months, Sony has toned down its marketing campaign. The company missed both E3 and GamesCom this year. The last State of Play they held was back in July, and it only covered some indie games like Deathloop and the Director’s Cut of Death Stranding. Now, they are back with a "proper" event.
New Event
Sony announced yesterday that a new PlayStation Showcase will take place on September 9 at 4 p.m. EST. The show will be around 40 minutes long and contain news from both PlayStation Studios and third-party developers. However, there will be no announcement about the upcoming PlayStation VR 2. So, don’t hold your breath about that.
Rumored Games
We don’t know for sure which exact games will be shown, but we can make some educated guesses. A recent rumor has suggested that God of War Ragnarok will be shown to some extent. This won’t be a surprise as initially, Ragnarok was supposed to launch in late 2021 before getting delayed to next year. They must have something developed to show us by now.
If previous leaks are accurate, then maybe, just maybe, Sony will announce Bloodborne Remaster for PlayStation 5. A new unannounced PS5-exclusive game by FromSoftware was also rumored. But I think it is still too early for that. They are currently busy with the Elden Ring anyway.
Possible Games
There is a good chance we will see The Last of Us Factions, the standalone MP game by Naughty Dog. This title has been in development for over a year now. Neil Druckmann says it will be worth the wait, but we will be the judge of that.
A final look at Death Stranding Director’s Cut and Deathloop could be shown as well. Also, don't forget some upcoming indie games like Kena: Bridge of Spirits and Little Devil Inside.
I won’t expect any gameplay for Gran Turismo 7 though since that game is still far away.
