While we have previously talked about the weird little game GNOG here at iDigitalTimes, this PlayStation Experience allowed me to get my hands on the VR version of GNOG using the PlayStation VR. Everything continues to be strange, weird, charming, and makes you want to keep poking around.
If you aren't aware of what GNOG is, the game is really more of a series of interactive toys disguised as puzzles. Each level, or "monster" looks like some kind of bizarre animal/robot hybrid thing. There are plenty of strange buttons to push, levers to pull, and knobs to turn as well, with each one usually controlling one or more other aspects of the monster. While there is no direct objective given for any level, it's usually pretty easy to figure out what you must do in order to move on to the next one.
With this VR demo, I was given a situation where I had three monsters at once. I found out that I had to mess around with some of the other monsters first in order to finish the last one. The coolest part of the experience was the fact that I was surrounded by these monsters. If you physically turn your head and look behind you, you'll see one of the other levels that you can switch to to interact with. With headphones added in, it really felt like I was immersed in this strange little world.
There's no proper release date for GNOG yet, but developer KO-OP Mode is hoping to get it out on the PS4 this Spring. While the release date for the PS VR headset also hasn't been revealed, it has been confirmed that GNOG will be ready to go with VR support from Day 1.
So what do you think? Are you interested in these smaller VR games like GNOG? Are you waiting to see more substantial VR games before you hop on buying a headset for yourself? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
